On Windows 8.1 system, the option is missing to install MSI packages as an administrator (via right-click).

However, there is a work around to add this option in the context menu:

  1. Press [Windows] + [R].
  2. Enter regedit.
  3. Click on OK.
    The Windows registry opens.
  4. Navigate to the folder "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT → Msi.Package → shell".
  5. Right-click on the key "shell".
  6. Select in the context menu "New → Key".
  7. Enter runas as the name of the key.
  8. Double-click on the value "(Default)" and
  9. enter Run as &administrator.
  10. Right-click on the key "runas".
  11. Select again "New → Key".
  12. Enter the name command.
  13. Double-click on the value "(Default)" and
  14. enter msiexec /i "%1".

Now, you can open a MSI file as an administrator using the right mouse button.
