MATRIX VISION - mvBlueCOUGAR-X/-XD Technical Documentation
System Requirements

Host System

The mvBlueCOUGAR-X / -XD is a high-performance camera which requires a high data throughput on the host system, for example, when processing large amount of image data and high CPU resources if processing color images on the host PC.

For this reason we recommend at least the following components:

ComponentRecommendation
ProcessorPreferably multi core Intel or ARM CPUs
RAM4 GB in 32-bit OS; 8 GB in 64-bit OS
MainboardLatest PC architecture and chipset
PCIe (for mvBlueCOUGAR-XD)x1 or x4 slot for the Network interface card
Network interface card (for mvBlueCOUGAR-XD)With the latest "Link Aggregate Group" (LAG) capable drivers

Several network interface cards have been tested successfully by MATRIX VISION. They are summarized by the following document: https://www.matrix-vision.com/files/mv11/support/Manuals/mvBlueCOUGAR-X_-_Recommended_NICs_en.pdf.

Please ask your system vendor for further advice and consult our technical documentation.

Network interface card (NIC) settings

We recommend following network interface card (NIC) settings:

ParameterSetting
Receive bufferMaximum
Transmitter bufferMaximum
MTUMaximum; the network interface card should support at least 1.5 KB jumbo frames, preferably 4 KB
Interrupt moderationActive
Interrupt moderation rateExtreme / Aggressive
RSSActive
Number of RSS queuesNumber of physical CPU cores (Hyper-Threading cores do not count. E.g. 8 cores and Hyper-Threading = 16 logical CPU cores; for RSS you should select 8, because the CPU does only have 8 physical cores
Link Aggregation / Teaming / Bonding (for mvBlueCOUGAR-XD)Active

For more information about network settings, please have a look at the troubleshooting chapter Optimizing Network Performance .

Supported Operating Systems

The following operating system are supported officially:

Windows

  • Microsoft Windows 7 (32-bit, 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit)
  • Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit)

Other Windows versions might work as well but will not be tested on a regular basis.

Note
Since mvIMPACT Acquire version 2.8.0 it could be possible that you have to update your Windows installer at least using Windows XP. The necessary packages are available from Microsoft's website: http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=8483

Linux

Please check the the 'Support' section of the MATRIX VISION website for the availability of the latest Linux driver package.

Currently supported Kernel versions are:

  • Kernel 3.5.x or greater

In case the target system runs an older Linux kernel, it is absolutely necessary to update the kernel to at least version 3.5.0 . Please refer to the documentation of your Linux distribution for information on how to update your system's Linux kernel.

All Kernels starting from version 3.5.0 should work without problems.
