IBM Cell chief architect at MATRIX VISION
VIP visit at the end of September at MATRIX VISION, one of the leading German manufacturers of image processing components situated in the Swabian city Oppenweiler: on the occasion of a technics and sales workshop, representatives from IBM including IBM Cell chief architect Peter Hofstee got a picture of the results of the cooperation, which lasts one year. In this time, MATRIX VISION developed image processing solutions for IBM's Cell/B.E. BladeCenter for the areas machine vision and digital video surveillance (DVS). Not only the capacity for innovation and the functionality of the mvCell product range were able to impress the visitors, also the outcome of the workshop left positive conclusions on both sides and underlined the joint efforts in these markets.
The specific reason for the workshop was the start of the distribution of the PowerXCell 8i processor accelerator board mvXCell-8i by MATRIX VISION in Europe. With mvXCell-8i, it is possible to use the Cell/B.E. technology in applications, where Blades are overdimensioned or not feasible like in embedded solutions. For image processing, MATRIX VISION optimizes the mvIMPACT library. For all other applications, third parties work on solutions to make the huge potential of Cell/B.E. using mvXCell-8i available for their areas.
